ABOUT US

Wild Maidenhead is a volunteer‑led charity protecting and celebrating local wildlife. Since 2016, we’ve worked to survey species, improve habitats and inspire residents to care for the nature on their doorstep. Run by trustees and open to local members, we support projects and groups across the borough to help biodiversity thrive.

Our Mission

Wild Maidenhead is on a mission to help look after the wild things and wild places in our area. We want to discover, celebrate, protect and improve the biodiversity of the Maidenhead area: the plants, flowers, and fungi, plus the many wonderful animals, birds, and insects that can be seen across the borough in parks, gardens, wildlife areas and nature reserves.

Our History

In late 2016, a group of people with a shared passion for nature set up the Wild Maidenhead charity. They aimed to survey and protect the local flora and fauna by working in partnership with other individuals and organisations, and engaging and enthusing other residents along the way. Ten years later, Wild Maidenhead is still a voice for wildlife in the community.

How We Are Run

Wild Maidenhead brings together residents who have an interest in nature and wildlife, and runs a variety of one-off events and longer-term projects. The group also acts in a support role or as a hub for a wide range of local groups and organisations.

Membership is open to individuals over eighteen, who live or work in Maidenhead.

The charity is overseen by a small group of trustees, with an AGM in April each year.

How We Are Funded

Our general events calendar and day to day costs are funded by donations and membership subscriptions.

Ongoing or larger projects are mostly funded by grants, with the designated funds being used only for the purposes specified in the grant application.
