MEET THE TEAM

Wild Maidenhead is powered by a passionate group of local volunteers who believe nature thrives when communities do too. Our team brings together gardeners, organisers, and enthusiastic neighbours who share a commitment to restoring habitats, supporting wildlife, and inspiring others to take action. We collaborate on practical projects across the area, from planting and surveying to education and community events, always with the goal of making Maidenhead a richer, wilder place for everyone.

Meet the people who help turn small ideas into meaningful change and keep our local wild spaces flourishing.

Core Committee Members

Chair

Divya Jayaker

I’ve always been enchanted by wildlife. Much of my childhood was spent exploring India’s extraordinary flora and fauna, whether I was peering at millipedes or uncovering secrets in the Western Ghats. The landscapes and conservation challenges in the UK are very different, yet the heart of it all feels wonderfully familiar.
I now live in Maidenhead and have been involved with WM for some time. I’ve loved the talks, walks, and activities over the years, long before stepping into the committee. As chair, I’m focused on engaging more residents in caring for our local biodiversity and ensuring that Maidenhead’s wildlife thrives for the future.

Secretary

Christina Cackett

I recently joined Wild Maidenhead as Secretary. I work as a project manager in the NHS and, outside of work, enjoy staying active, particularly through rowing and triathlon. I’m keen to use my skills and energy to support Wild Maidenhead’s work in championing and protecting local wildlife.

Treasurer

Joanne McMullen

I joined Wild Maidenhead a few years ago, because I wanted to learn more about wildlife big and small, and to do something practical to support wildlife locally in any way I could.

Although I have started my wild education, there is just so much more to know! And as well as getting hands-on with outdoor projects, I am also doing my bit as treasurer for WM.

Membership Secretary

Gill Evans

I’m a retired IT techie who started doing practical conservation work with WMCV over 30 years ago. I particularly enjoy woodland management.

Since retiring I am able to spend much more time outdoors and also volunteer with BBOWT and at Burnham Beeches.

Events Officer

Martin Woolner

A founder member of Wild Maidenhead. Enthusiastic about wildlife in many forms – but not birds, I leave them to others. Small things particularly …. spiders, beetles, pond life in general, moths, mosses and, of course, plants which are wrongly labelled as weeds by so many people! Retired from a research job in my late 50’s and got everso busy  in local defence of wildlife.

Community Engagement Officer

Rachel Cook

I have always loved the natural world since I can remember.  Most of my childhood was spent on a beach searching the tide line or rockpools or sitting in a bird hide.  My most memorable event was watching one of the last Lake District golden eagles chasing a rabbit from the RSPB birdhide at Hawswater (it missed).  I am currently on a mission to encourage people to grow native plants for our wildlife.  If you can grow anything for your garden, add teasels and some native trees and long grass for butterfly and moth caterpillars!

Other Committee Members

Trevor Smith

Trevor is one of the founding members of Wild Maidenhead and continues to offer his ecological support to the group. He has always been passionate and curious about the natural world and spent his career devoted to nature conservation, including academic research, teaching, and reserve management at coastal, downland and urban locations.

He continues to maintain his great interest in entomology, a discipline where he specialises in studying the behaviours of solitary bees and solitary wasps in the UK.

Helen Tyrell

Hello! I’m Helen, I’ve been with Wild Maidenhead for just over 2 years; however, I’ve been a lifetime wildlife protector, conservationist, & all round nerd on all things nature. My role within Wild Maidenhead is project manager, looking after wildlife areas within RBWM’s 10% wilder scheme & social media promoter.

Brian Clews

I’m Brian Clews, a Wild Maidenhead founder member living in Cookham with wife Hazel. We have four children. I’m involved on projects with Berkshire Ornithological Club, WildGuides Books, and run some of the  activities of WildCookham. My illness of ‘inquisitiveness’ demands I try to identify any wildlife I find!”
