VOLUNTEERING

Thank you for considering joining in with the work of Wild Maidenhead. We love to meet new volunteers. There are several ways to get involved, which broadly split into 3 categories: events, projects and organisation.

Events

Wild Maidenhead events are one-off activities on specific dates. Perfect if you want to try something for the first time or get a taste of what Wild Maidenhead and its partners do.

For volunteers who really want to get stuck in there are opportunities for hands-on conservation work such as coppicing, hedge-laying and pond clearance; as well as, slightly, gentler pursuits including tree planting and raking meadows. We also host guided walks and talks, and evening webinars from experts on a variety of flora and fauna.

All of these activities offer a fun way to learn something new about British wildlife and their habitats.

Projects

These are ongoing volunteer-led activities, most of which fall under our Wilder Parks banner. Our wilder parks teams are small groups of Wild Maidenhead members and other residents who want to improve a public space close to where they live. Supported by members of the Wild Maidenhead community, and with the borough council’s permission, they might rewild a corner of a park, plant bulbs, remove invasive plants or sow wildflower seeds. One group have even planted a mini orchards and held a Wassail (a traditional English celebration) !

There is always something going on.

Or is there a space near you that could benefit from being a little wilder?

Organisation

Do you want to make a difference to local wildlife, get involved in the running of a local charity and use your skills in a new environment? Do you have an area of conservation or wildlife expertise you would like to share or increase?
If the answer to either of the above is yes, we would love to hear from you.

We have a small and friendly committee and associated experts who work not only to support Wild Maidenhead members and its activities, but are involved in with other
local forums and input into relevant borough planning groups such as on the nature recovery strategy.
